Jaclyn Spitzer

Since my first drawing of a 3 legged cow (at age 3), the impulse to create has always been part of my life.  I have always drawn, painted, modeled clay and had a great time!  There was a little formal training along the way, a course at the Brooklyn Museum, at the Cleveland Heights Art Center or the Guilford Art Center, but I am mostly self-taught and the discovery continues today.

My work takes several directions. First, the media and techniques include pen and ink drawing, acrylic painting, mixed media, collage, and stained glass.  More than the media used, the work goes from representational to abstract, and often includes an element of humor or just plain silliness.  The subject matter varies from abstract design to landscapes, seascapes, animals, and people.  Inspirations are the real world, the inner world, musical sources, literature, and mythology.

My art has always lived side by side with my professional life.  As an audiologist, I have published more than 90 scientific articles, over 150 scientific abstracts, numerous chapters, and books about the diagnosis and rehabilitation of persons with hearing loss.  My work has given me great satisfaction and my artwork has given me fulfillment.  I am happy and painting away!
