Lourdes Robles is an educator and artist based in New York City. She works with different kinds of media, including paper, water-based inks, and color pencils. She also works with the written word, especially poetry, digital art, and photography.
Lourdes has studied at The Art Students League of New York and FIT, and has been mentored, among others, by artist Elizabeth Matheson, one of the former directors of JJENTH Gallery in Peekskill, NY. Her style can be described as improvisational, often letting the work itself determine what it wants to be, as opposed to starting with a set idea. In this way, by “yes, and-ing” each line and color, the work effectively becomes partner and co-creator. She has also collaborated with other artists to create works that merge her poetry with other artist’s visual expressions.
Besides artist and educator, Lourdes also identifies as an animal lover, avid reader, and a life-long learner, often finding inspiration in the most obscure of places. She has shown her work in various exhibits, including “Art from Way Uptown,” in Inwood, NY.
