Maryann King

My earliest effort at painting (I was 12 years old) was a portrait of my mother and father. Upon completion, the figures had only a vague resemblance to my actual parents. The same thing happened when I painted bunches of flowers or landscapes. But I was hooked on making art! I loved mixing colors. I struggled to control the brush. I discovered art magazines in the library.

Today, I find visual possibilities in discarded materials through the use of imagination. I look for hidden images and uncover them. Paint, glue and sandpaper help in the transformation. Old wood, recycled card board, wrapping paper, magazines, pieces of wire, twigs and tree bark are all waiting to be transformed!
